A New Vaccine Could Help People Digest Gluten
A worldwide study has shown promising results for those suffering celiac disease.

While gluten-free diets have been on trend recently, this lifestyle is a necessity for those with celiac disease. There is currently no treatment available, but there is hope for a vaccine that will allow people with celiac disease to eat gluten.
The vaccine, Nexvan2, is being tested worldwide. The first test was in 2011 and found the vaccine to be safe. In 2017, $40 million in funding was received by the company developing the vaccine, ImmusanT. The funding will allow additional research, including a second round of testing that is set to include 150 patients from the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Through this study we anticipate making new insights that will further our ability to demonstrate specific suppression of the immune response to gluten epitopes and associated effects of celiac disease,” Dr. Ken Truitt, ImmusanT chief medical officer, told BeyondCeliac.org.
