Crocodile Pop Blocs Learning Toy

from Melissa & Doug

Snap! goes the crocodile. Pop! go these knobbed soft blocks as they connect to build a colorful block chain . . . and one cute croc! The perfect size and shape for babies and toddlers learning to build and count, this "snappy" play set includes a crocodile head and tail, and four numbered, textured, linkable blocks to make him short and sweet or lanky and long. The colorful cubes connect with knob-and-socket closures that are easy enough for little hands but provide nice resistance work for growing motor skills and finger strength. Two knobs on each block means kids can choose how to build--in a straight line or turning a corner! These blocks for babies and toddlers are great for cognitive skills, too: Textured patterns, animal picture groups, and a bright numeral on each block encourage matching and counting play that can be tailored for any age. Creative details such as a charming character, movable feet, textured sides, and colorful flower tail keep kids engaged as they learn!

With interactive designs and multisensory features, K's Kids promotes constructive play and effortless learning, keeping interest high and new skills flourishing throughout the baby and toddler years!

Extension Activities: More Ways to Play and Learn:

  • 6 MONTHS AND UP: Connect two of the blocks and hand them to the child. Encourage the child to twist the two blocks. Challenge the child to disconnect the blocks.
  • Stack the blocks, then encourage the child to knock down the tower.
  • Count the different parts of the toy. Say the numbers aloud and encourage the child to pat the different pieces along with you.
  • 12 MONTHS AND UP: Help the child identify the different colors on the toy. Say a color name aloud
  • and help the child point to a block of that color. Or name a color and help the child find the places that color appears, on the toy and elsewhere in the room.
  • Count the blocks, then count the pictures on each block. Invite the child to count along with you.
  • Help the child assemble the crocodile, finishing by positioning the tail in the wrong place. Ask, "Is this where the tail goes?" Continue moving it to "wrong" positions, then place it correctly and cheer!
  • 18 MONTHS AND UP: Ask the child to count the pictures on each block, pointing to each raised picture as he or she counts.
  • Encourage the child to link the blocks into a tower or row.
  • Name a color or pattern. Ask the child to point to the blocks that fit the group.
  • Tell a story about the crocodile. Ask questions to help the child add details. For example, "The crocodile went to the river and ate one fish. What will he eat next?"
  • OLDER TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS: Explore different ways to pattern the blocks numerically, pair numerals and quantities, and order the blocks by numerals or quantities.
  • Challenge the child to build "silly crocodiles" by creating different block formations between the head and tail.
  • Ask the child to connect the pieces to complete the flower-vine picture puzzle.
  • Create different numerical sums by adding and removing the number blocks.
  • Suggest specific patterns for the child to follow when constructing the crocodile, naming animals, colors, numbers, or patterns to identify.
