A Warning To Make Sure Car Seat Is Installed Correctly

This video will make you want to check your car seat installation.

A recent video taken from a car in Mankato, Minnesota showed a toddler falling out of a car door, still strapped to the car seat. TODAY reporters said that the man in the following car got out of his vehicle, stopping traffic and picking up the car seat. The mom had continued driving after the car seat fell.

The toddler was unhurt, TODAY reports, and the mom returned to find her later. "Authorities are looking into child endangerment charges," the reporter explained. The car seat had not been properly strapped into the vehicle.

To be aware of how your car seat works, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) recommends registering your car seat and checking that you've installed it correctly. A car seat should be installed using either the seat belt or the lower anchors, but not both, they say. They also allow parents to enter their location and find places nearby to have their car seat inspected for free; the technicians can show parents how to properly install the seat as well.
