A London hotel recently added "womb rooms" to help its guest sleep better. According to one sleep psychologist, an unconscious part of the brain kicks in while sleeping in new places, like hotels. This "watchman" tendency can make it harder for the brain to relax into deeper sleep.
The womb rooms are meant to remind sleepers of a womb in late pregnancy. The peach-colored walls are shaped in waves, and the resulting bed is more snug than an ordinary open hotel room.
These rooms, called the Zed Rooms, are intended to promote REM sleep. The creators also installed certain scents to help relax guests (Insider). Click here for more information on this new hotel, located in Shoreditch.
