Sesame Street Introduces New Muppet to Help Relate to More Children

Lily, a Muppet originally introduced in 2011, struggles with homelessness.

Sesame Street is re-introducing one of their former Muppets as a child whose family loses their home. Lily, a pink Muppet, will introduce Sesame Street viewers to the concept of homelessness.

Sherrie Westin, the president of global impact and philanthropy for Sesame's nonprofit, explains that she wants children to be able to relate to the characters on Sesame Street. Also, she wants viewers who aren't homeless to empathize. This new Muppet storyline will allow kids to see homelessness in a different light than adults typically might, she hopes.

According to Parents, the majority of Lily's story arc will be on videos rather than the Sesame Street TV series. Click here for the full article.
