Practical Ways to Pamper Mom on Mother's Day

Sometimes, time is the best gift of all.

Subtle suggestions of realistic ways for moms of littles to be celebrated.

The longer I am a mother, the more I realize it is the little things in life that resonate the biggest in my heart.

Spring is here, our days are growing longer & warmer, and Mother's Day is right around the corner. Mothers everywhere are to be celebrated, and hopefully in a way that meets a need in each of their hearts.

But let's face it, for new moms or moms of the bittiest of babies, they may have to rely on dad to help when it comes to gift giving this Mother's Day. So what can that look like?

Here are a few ideas for the mother of youngsters that might cause you to feel celebrated in a more practical way. Maybe the gift most needed is something not tangible; perhaps it is the gift of time, whether time to yourself or more intentional time.

Practical Ways to Pamper Mom on Mother's Day

*Some of these gifts require Dad's help to watch over the youngsters, so have a conversation a few days before to avoid having unmet expectations.)

Primp Time

Whether it is before church on Mother's Day or before the family brunch or dinner, an uninterrupted hour or two in the bathroom, kid-free, might be just the thing. Take a long bath, shave your legs, or pluck your eyebrows! Maybe you'll feel like putting on a full face of make-up or trying a new hair style. Whatever makes you feel feminine and beautiful, do it.

Coffee Book Date with Self

For you introverted mothers that would give just about anything for 90 minutes all to yourself, take advantage of Sunday afternoon nap time. Grab your coffee-shop-date-with-myself bag filled with the collection of books you are currently reading, tools for journal or letter writing, your earbuds, your music player, your *worry-free-notepad and pens, adult coloring book with colored pencils and sharpener. Find yourself a comfy chair and plop down with your beverage of choice and be still for a bit.

*a worry-free-notepad is where you write down the worry's or "to-do's" that come and interrupt your quiet time. Studies show that if you write them down, you are more apt to be able to enjoy your time alone worry-free.

Intentional One-On-One Time

If you have more than one child, it can be difficult to get some quality time with each of your treasures. Set some time aside during Mother's Day or in the days that follow to spend an hour with each of your children. Take them out on a date, or to someplace special. Use the time to share with your child why this day is special to you and how they fill your heart with joy.

The Help

In the spirit of asking for what you need and want if the family offers to help with some of the household tasks, give them a list of what really would matter to you. Let dad and the boys fold the laundry and put it away one day. Have the girls dust the house, including the moldings. There are always toilets that can be cleaned and bathtubs that could be scrubbed.

It is never too soon to teach the art of caring for another’s heart. If any of these ideas prick your heart, I encourage you to share them with your husband or children; let them know what it would mean to you to be given the gift of time, in whatever form that looks like.

Happy Mother's Day beautiful ones! How would you like to be celebrated this Mother's Day? I'd love to read your comments below.
