Mom and Daughter Reunited After 70 Years Thanks to a DNA Kit

A simple DNA kit has brought a mom and daughter together for the first time since birth. In 1949, Genevieve Purinton, 88, gave birth at a hospital in Gary, Indiana, The New York Times reported. At the time of her daughter’s birth, Purinton was 18-years-old, not married and alone.
"When I said I wanted to see the baby, they told me she died," Purinton told Fox Tampa affiliate WTVT. During this time period, it’s noted that hundreds of thousands of young women were forced to give up their babies.
Luckily, results from an Ancestry.com DNA test have reunited this mom and daughter 70 years later. Connie Moultroup of Richmond, Vermont found a "new" cousin through this DNA test who led her to her mother, Purinton.
"I remember being five years old and wishing that I could find my mother," Moultroup said.

Before the reunion, Purinton believed she was the last surviving member of her immediate family, she told WTVT. Today, she is pleased to know she has a daughter, granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
