International Day of the Girl 2018: A Skilled GirlForce

Countries around the world are changing the future for girls.

Today we celebrate International Day of the Girl, a United Nations initiative that has countries around the world recognizing the challenges girls face.

According to the United Nations, 600 million adolescent girls will enter the workforce in the next decade. More than 90 percent of those living in developing countries will work in the informal sector, where low or no pay, abuse and exploitation are common.

A Skilled GirlForce

This year’s theme, A Skilled GirlForce, will kick-off a year-long effort to raise awareness and advocate for investments to fund access to education and training. Innovation and automation are changing the demands, and Day of the Girl hopes to ensure girls have opportunities to learn the skills needed for today's workforce.

Specifically in the United States, Day of the Girl-US is 100 percent youth-led movement fighting for gender justice and youth rights.
