It's official: New Jersey will be the first state to give away free baby boxes.
Parents.com reports,
Baby Boxes, which are handed out to new moms in Finland, may help explain why that nation has the lowest infant mortality rate in the world at just 1.3 deaths per 1,000 births. By contrast, in the U.S. the infant mortality rate is 6.1 deaths per 1,000 births, according to the CDC.
These non-toxic cardboard boxes essentially guarantee a safe night of sleeping for baby.

The Baby Box Co confirms these findings, saying the baby box is "an essential first gift or purchase for new parents (providing) a safe sleeping environment for infants. Studies have shown that this tradition has helped Finland achieve one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world."
