Consumer Reports recently announced that wearing a winter coat while seated in a car seat is unsafe. This can "leave the harness to loose to be effective in a crash" (Parents). For parents, ushering children from store to store while running errands can be a challenge - some of them have been criticized for not bundling up their kids.
In a recent Reddit thread, however, one mom explains the new rule in detail, requesting that others refrain from criticizing. Other moms responded with examples of people who approached them at a store to "mom-shame" this decision. Another commented to share her alternatives to a coat, including a fleece poncho.
The main request from these mothers was that passersby "mind their own business." People likely aren't aware of this new car seat regulation and might be too quick to criticize a parent for not putting a coat on their baby for thirty seconds while leaving Target or something.
