Think Twice Before Asking "When Are You Having Kids"

This casual question can bring great pain to a childless couple.

In an honest and thorough Facebook post, mom Adele Barbaro warns people against asking a married couple when they are having kids. For a couple who has tried and failed to conceive, this is a thoughtless question.

Barbaro explains that conceiving and retaining a pregnancy is actually challenging for many, especially for women who have reproductive issues (The Real Mumma). Being around other pregnant couples during that time is emotionally painful. Barbaro writes that during her conception struggle, she was "bitter, desperate and depressed."

Asking "when are you having kids?" can be a casual question to the bystander, but it's actually a serious topic that can cause a husband and wife pain. Think twice before you ask - or better, choose not to ask at all. You can give respite to a hurting family if you're willing to remain silent.
